Dental Sealants
Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, dental sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored acrylic “coating” is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively “seals” the deep grooves, acting as a barrier and protecting enamel from plaque and acids. Call us at 781-848-0292 to schedule your appointment today.
What are inlays and onlays?
Inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin. These pieces are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay, which is similar to a filling, is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth. An onlay is a more substantial reconstruction, similar to the inlay but extending out over one or more of the cusps of the tooth.
Traditionally, gold has been the material of choice for inlays and onlays. In recent years, however, porcelain has become increasingly popular due to its strength and color, which can potentially match the natural color of your teeth.
How long does it take to fit a dental crown?
Fitting a crown typically requires two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a tooth-colored temporary crown.
On the subsequent visit, we will remove the temporary crown and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place and you have a new beautiful looking tooth.
Key Benefits of Dental Crowns
- Replaces missing teeth
- Offers support to misshapen teeth or badly broken teeth
- Looks completely natural
- Fixes “smile” and functional chewing problems
What are the capabilities of crowns?
Crown and bridgework is a very reliable solution for dental conditions caused through accidents, diseases or wear and tear. Material used in these repairs is either porcelain, porcelain bonded to noble metals, or full gold. Where accidental damage has occurred, resulting in lost teeth, or where teeth have broken away through excessive wear, or as the result of old fillings breaking, crowns and/or bridges can be used as a long-term solution.
Many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older and larger fillings can both weaken and discolor the teeth. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns are usually necessary to prevent breakage of the tooth.
I had an excellent experience at South Shore Smiles. Dr. Cheng and her assistant provided me with incredible reassurance throughout my appointment. Not only did they fill my cavity efficiently, but I also experienced zero pain during the procedure. I truly appreciate their expertise and care, making my visit comfortable and stress-free. As someone who is notoriously picky about choosing a dentist, I am incredibly thankful to have found a provider that I trust and comfortable with! Highly recommend!

A very pleasant experience. It started with a wonderful reception from Mary at the front desk. My dental assistant Adella was very knowledgeable of my procedure and took the time to make sure I understood everything. Dr. Cheng was a spectacular final touch on my visit. The office environment is tastefully decorated and very welcoming.

Excellent staff and service. From the time I walked through their door to the time I left, everyone was attentive, kind, professional, and caring. My dental hygienist was attentive and went the extra mile to get me warm water to rinse with after asking and learning of the sensitivity of one tooth. My dentist took the time to ask questions and actually listened to my responses. Best dental care I have EVER received! If you are looking for a caring and competent dental team – you will find it with South Shore Smiles. Thanks for making my daughter and I feel cared for!

Hating going to the dentist is a thing of the past! The staff here could not be any kinder and more personable. Very cute office space too! I got my Invisalign done by Dr. Cheng two years ago and the difference in my smile is like night and day. I got my teeth cleaned by Christine yesterday as well and and she was a pleasure to chat with (along with the two ladies working in reception, so sorry but I did not catch their names!) I would recommend going here to absolutely anyone, only dentist’s office I will go to for the rest of my life.
